Step 1: Choosing Your Piggie Pals |
First when you find our rescue you can go through either the Adoptable Pet List on Pet-Finder or our bios on Our Adoptables Page Reading the bios gets you a better idea of where the piggies have been and what kind of personality they have.
Also if you currently have guinea pigs already you can see which pig or pigs in the rescue would be best suited for your current herd.
|
Step 2: Fill Out Our Application |

Filling out our adoption application gives us all the information we would ever need in deciding whether you would be a great piggie parent to one our rescue pigs. With the information that you give we get to know you as a pet owner, and can give you suggestions on how to make your current pets life even better.
|
Step 3: Getting A Response Email |

You will usually get an email response from us within 1-2 days. The email that it will be sent from is wwfprezcat@hotmail.com. This is where we have looked over your application and we have either questions, concerns or need additional information on your adoption status.
Also through email we get to know our adopters and answer any questions they may have regarding the piggies they want to adopt, guinea pig care, etc.
|
Step 4: The Phone Interview |

We will either give you a time period to call us, or We'll set up a time for us to call you. During the phone interview any other additional questions I have regarding your application will be asked. The interview is basically to tie up loose ends. Get all the details sorted out etc.
This is also the time where we can set up a day and time for you and your family to come and meet the pigs and adopt them.
|
Step 5: Going To Piggie Lovers Inc. |

This is the adoption day where you come to our home where the rescue is located. If you currently have guinea pigs that are going to be introduced to the one or one's that you are adopting we encourage you to bring them along.
The night before we bathe, trim nails and get the piggies settled into a different cage upstairs where they will be when you arrive to the rescue. Although you piggie or piggies that you are adopting are already out of the rescue downstairs we offer to show you around our facility.
|
Step 6: Introductions |

Upstairs in our living room we set up a 3x4 C&C cage to house your piggies in for a night and if you have current piggies that will be the site of introductions that day.
Also with the piggies getting used to this size of cage they are more comfortable in their surrounds. We can easily pick them up to introduce you to your new furry family members.
|
Step 7: Time To Educate |

At this time we have an education talk. Where we go over nail trimming, bathing, weighing weekly etc. We go over the very important issues for everyday health. We also give you a list of great websites to visit for more information on the health of your guinea pig and housing etc.
We also encourage you to make a list of any additional questions you may have for us about guinea pig care. No question is silly or stupid so feel free to ask away.
|
Step 8: Signing The Contract |

At this time we will give you the adoption contract or contracts to sign. You will receive a copy for yourself. In the contract it states that you will feed, care for, provide proper housing etc for your new furry family member or members. Also we have a section on the contract where you have to sign, that states that if you are no longer able to care for the guinea pigs you must return them to the rescue.
Along with your contract you will also get a Piggie Name Card which has their starting weight, ending weight, age, sex, and reason why they were surrendered.
Also at this time you are to pay the adoption fees for the guinea pigs. Which is $25 per pig and $50 for a pair of pigs. Adoption fees are very important, they only cover a small percentage of the costs to run our rescue.
|
Step 9: Your Happy Tails |

Now here's the best part. It has become tradition for us to take pictures of our rescue pigs with their new forever families. It's always a very happy moment when the piggies from our rescue find their forever home, so we like to capture that moment in a picture.
Now it is time that you can take your new furry family members home. If you are making a long drive we always like to give you some hay and veggies for the ride home, for the piggies of course! :)
|
Step 10: Piggie Updates |

Once you and your new furry family members are settled in. We always like to receive update emails and pictures. Also if you have any additional questions on behavior, veggie likes or dislikes etc. We can always be reached through EMAIL Any questions you'd have we are glad to answer.
Here at our rescue we are not looking for temporary homes, we are looking for forever homes
